AN AREA of Dunbar Harbour could be transformed as part of plans which include storage units and possibly a sculpture.

Dunbar Harbour Trust (DHT), which manages the harbour, is looking to create a timber-clad storage facility for harbour users at the western end of the harbour, near the castle.

The plans, which have been submitted to East Lothian Council’s planning department, also show a sculpture, although Steven Anderson, from DHT, was keen to stress that that aspect of the project was secondary to the storage building.

A design statement included within the application said: “Within the application the main structure is a timber-clad storage facility for harbour activities, broken into six individual units.

“The other components are placement of sculpture and associated groundworks, access, seating, lighting and CCTV provision, the latter on approach to the storage area.”

Mr Anderson said improvements had been carried out at the Battery and the Propeller, with DHT now hoping to enhance this section of the harbour.

He said: “The primary goal of the project is to create a new storage space and workshops for the harbour users and to improve the general environment.”

Photographs of the sculpture are included in the planning application, which Mr Anderson described as an “industrial piece”. Funding for artwork would come from external organisations and DHT.
