A HOUSE party in Ormiston ended in violence after a man was headbutted.

Sean Davie attacked Victor Shearer by butting him to the face and breaking the man’s nose after the pair had fallen out at the party.

Mr Shearer and his girlfriend Olivia Morgan left the house after a row between party-goers but they were followed by Davie.

Davie, of Berry Grove, Ormiston, then launched the surprise attack on Mr Shearer as he and Ms Morgan had stopped about 100 yards from the house.

The attack left Mr Shearer with a broken nose and severe concussion.

Davie denied the assault but was found guilty after he stood trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Wednesday.

Sheriff Nigel Ross told the 33-year-old attacker that he would have been jailed if he had carried out the assault on a stranger.

Ms Morgan gave evidence to the court, where she described Davie attacking her boyfriend “out of the blue”.

The 23-year-old tattoo artist said that everyone at the house party had been at a 30th birthday party in Macmerry and had got taxis back to the house in Ormiston to “carry on socialising”.

She said that Mr Shearer had fallen asleep on a couch and, as he slept, Davie made disparaging comments to her about her partner.

When Mr Shearer woke up, he found out about the conversation between Davie and his partner and confronted Davie.

No violence took place at that time and Mr Shearer and Ms Morgan then decided to go to his parents’ home nearby.

But as they made their way along the village’s Main Street, Davie crept up behind Mr Shearer and headbutted him when he turned around.

Mr Shearer, 26, also gave evidence to the court and said that he and Davie had words with each other at the Macmerry party earlier in the evening.

He added that he “did not feel comfortable around him” and that after the attack Davie ran away.

Sheriff Ross fined the attacker £600.

Davie was found guilty of assaulting Victor Shearer by headbutting him to his injury at Main Street, Ormiston, on September 23 last year.
