A MEETING is set to take place this week in a bid to save Cockenzie and Port Seton Gala.

Organisers previously announced following their emergency general meeting (EGM) yesterday evening (Monday) that the gala, which celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, had been cancelled due to a lack of support.

A statement issued on Facebook by Cockenzie and Port Seton Gala committee said: "Following on from the poor attendance at our EGM, it is with deep regret that we must inform you that the 2019 gala is cancelled and future galas are also in jeopardy.

"We appreciate this will be deeply upsetting for you all to hear.

"We will look to organise a disco event for the gala children as a small compensation.

"We tried our best but we can no longer carry on with the number of committee we have."

However, after an outpouring of support on Facebook, the committee has decided to review the decision to cancel the gala, although its future is still uncertain.

A meeting will be held on Thursday and all volunteers and potential committee members are encouraged to attend.

The meeting takes place at 7pm at Port Seton Community Centre cafe, with any queries to be emailed to cpsgala@hotmail.co.uk
