A RESTAURANT opened by award-winning chef Tom Kitchin is celebrating picking up a prestigious prize – less than three months after opening.

The Bonnie Badger, on Gullane’s Main Street, was awarded an AA 5 Gold Star for Restaurant with Rooms rating.

The AA hospitality rating system dates back more than 100 years and the restaurant, which opened in December, has received top marks.

Mr Kitchin told the Courier: “We’re over the moon with this rating and acknowledgement.

“It’s a fantastic achievement by the team after less than three months opened and I’m very proud of my wife Michaela for having the vision of what could be and for creating such a special place with her love of interior.”

The former Golf Inn has undergone a full refurbishment and features 14 bedrooms, a bar, a 60-cover dining room and an outdoor garden.

Mr Kitchin added: “The hotel has always played an important role in village life and with the extensive work undertaken we always set out to create a really special place for people to visit for an excellent hospitality experience on all levels.

“We are thrilled to be acknowledged by the AA and we’re incredibly proud to bring a five-star accommodation rating to Gullane.

“We’re incredibly passionate about working with local suppliers, craftsmen and women, and share our genuine passion for outstanding service and food. Hopefully this accolade will help bring visitors to beautiful East Lothian.”
