THREE pensioners were taken to hospital following a serious accident on East Lothian’s coast road.

The incident took place at about 3pm on Friday on the A198, near Gullane Golf Club.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “The incident happened around 3pm and involved a Suzuki Swift and Volkswagen Golf.

"The 78-year-old male driver of the Suzuki, his 74-year-old female passenger and the 73-year-old female driver of the Volkswagen were all taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh having sustained a number of injuries.

"Inquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision are ongoing."

The road was closed for about seven hours following the incident.
