CHARITIES, schools and good causes across East Lothian can now apply for a share of £10,000 after the 2019 CALA Homes Community Bursary – run in partnership with the Courier – was launched.

Now in its third year, the scheme aims to provide support to a wide range of organisations and community projects.

Since 2017, £30,000 has been awarded – with this year’s donations set to take that total to £40,000.

Last year saw an amazing 103 causes apply to the East Lothian bursary – with 13 local organisations benefitting.

Donations were made to groups ranging from Muddy Buddies in Dunbar to the John Bellany Day Centre in Port Seton.

Philip Hogg, sales and marketing director with CALA Homes (East), said: “CALA has always been committed to making a positive and lasting contribution to the communities in which it builds, through an active programme of local charity donations, community support and sponsorship.

“This is the third year that we have ran the bursary in East Lothian, and each time we have been blown away by the number of groups who are making a positive impact in the area.

“The bursary scheme gives us the chance to see what is needed locally and where funding would be best placed to support the community.

“We are looking forward to hearing from more local charities and causes, large and small, about the great work they do and how CALA can lend a hand.”

A selection panel will decide recipients of this year’s funding.

Robbie Scott, Courier editor, added: “We look forward to another successful year and seeing how this money will help greatly benefit communities in East Lothian.

“Sadly, we’re unable to support every applicant but there is no doubt this fund is having a hugely positive impact on our groups and good causes.”
