A PRESTONPANS man has been placed on a drug treatment programme in a bid to curb his addiction and offending.

Nicholas Cochrane assaulted Scotmid employee Dean Ritchie by grabbing him by the neck and pushing him during an incident at the supermarket last May.

Cochrane, of Drummohr Drive, also admitted a separate offence of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and spitting on a police officer.

The latest incident took place at the town’s McLeod Crescent on August 15 last year.

The 29-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday, where he was placed on a 15-month drug treatment and testing order (DTTO).

Sheriff Fletcher made the drug treatment order to mark the assault on the Scotmid employee and deferred sentence for the later matter to March 15.

Cochrane admitted assaulting the Scotmid employee at the store at the town’s High Street on May 31 last year.

He also pleaded guilty to shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence and to assaulting a police officer by splitting on him at McLeod Crescent, Prestonpans, on August 15 last year.
