FAST-FOOD giants McDonald's want to open a new restaurant in the county, it's been confirmed.

The Courier revealed last year that 200 jobs would be created if proposals for major roadside services off the A1 at Gladsmuir were approved.

Councillors will this Tuesday rule on a planning application by Euro Garages Ltd to transform the former Raceland go-karting and paintball centre, which closed a year ago.

They want a petrol station with shop, a drive-thru coffee shop, two drive-thru restaurants and parking for 107 vehicles.

There has been much speculation which big-name fast-food outlets could be based there - and it's now been confirmed McDonald's want to be one of them.

A planning statement to the local authority says: "Euro Garages have recently structured a partnership with McDonald's and the proposal at Gladsmuir will be one of the first developments to have McDonald's as a retail partner."

One of the drive thru restaurants would be open 24 hours a day but it is not known if that would be McDonald's or another still-to-be-confirmed operator. The coffee shop would operate seven days a week from 6am to 11pm.

Euro Garages already operates more than 104 Starbucks, 167 Subways, 50 Burger Kings and 104 Greggs bakeries across its sites.

McDonald's only East Lothian restaurant is at Spott Roundabout, Dunbar.
