A FORMER children’s football coach has been placed on the sex offenders’ register after he admitted sending sexual images to a child and asking her to meet up for sex.

Matthew Benison, of East Linton, sent the youngster pictures of his genitals and videos of him committing a solo sex act from his Stories Park home in 2017.

He carried on the sexual conduct last year by committing similar offences, while he also asked the child to send him naked pictures of themselves.

Benison also asked the girl to meet up with him on various occasions to engage in sexual activity.

The 34-year-old former children’s football coach appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday where he pleaded guilty to four charges.

Sheriff Frank Crowe deferred sentence to next month and placed him on the sex offenders’ register for a period still to be decided.

Benison pleaded guilty to sending a child images and videos of him committing a solo sex act, and to asking for naked images of the child in return, and asking to meet up with her for sexual activity, all at his home address between September 1 and December 1, 2017.

He also admitted to sending images and videos of his genitals, asking a child to send him naked images and asking to meet up for sex, at his home address between December 2, 2017, and June 25 last year.
