A TRANENT man will be sentenced next month after he admitted assaulting a woman by hauling her back into a vehicle she was attempting to flee from.

John McDonald, 41, seized the woman by the hair and pushed her face into the steering wheel of the car that the pair were travelling in last January.

McDonald then placed his hands around the woman’s neck and pulled her back into the car as she tried to get out at Buccleuch Street in Edinburgh.

He then went on to brandish a chair at a man and challenged him to fight during the incident on January 7 last year.

McDonald, of Caponhall Drive, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, where he admitted the two charges.

A not guilty plea to assaulting the woman by punching her to the face was accepted by the Crown.

Sheriff Alison Stirling decided to defer sentence on McDonald to February 1 for the preparation of a social work report and for a restriction of liberty order assessment to be carried out.
