PLANS for a new brewhouse at a major Haddington employer are being considered by East Lothian Council.

Pure Malt Products is seeking permission to create a brewhouse on the eastern edge of its site, off Whittingehame Drive.

Documents with the local authority’s planning department state: “Currently the brewing takes place within the current steel framed buildings; however, this plant is nearing its end of life and is in need of modernisation.

“The construction of the new brewhouse will enable the applicant to install new machinery and increase current production efficiency.

“The area proposed for the new brewhouse is currently vacant.”

The new building would be built alongside two new silos, which would be about 25 metres in height, with the building slightly smaller.

The business, which supplies ingredients for everything from soup and soft drinks to ice cream and nutritional supplements, exports to more than 50 countries on six continents.
