FIVE people have appeared in court charged with attempted murder.

On Monday, four teenagers attended Edinburgh Sheriff Court following an incident in Musselburgh on Hogmanay.

Aaron Thomson, 19, from Musselburgh; Jayson Dodds, 18, from Musselburgh; and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons, from Prestonpans, are all charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, danger of life and attempted murder.

A 16-year-old from Prestonpans, who also cannot be named for legal reasons, is also charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, danger of life and attempted murder, as well as behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and assaulting police.

All four accused made no plea to the charges and the case was committed for further examination.

Thomson and the 16-year-old were both remanded in custody and will appear at the court again within eight days.

Dodds and the 17-year-old were both granted bail and will appear back at court at a later date.

Meanwhile, Dean Riding, 21, from Tranent, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday (Wednesday).

He is also charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, danger of life and attempted murder.

Riding made no plea and was remanded in custody to appear again within eight days.
