AN ELPHINSTONE man who caused a disturbance at a Tranent opticians will be sentenced next month.
Paul Donaghue behaved in a threatening manner and repeatedly shouted and swore at Montgomery Optometrists on the town’s Bridge Street.
Donaghue, of Main Street, then began throwing papers around the shop and refused to leave the premises when asked to do so by staff.
The 34-year-old also stole a toy from the Tranent Paper Shop and a quantity of food from a nearby Greggs shop.
All the offences took place on November 28.
Donaghue then told police officers his name was James Davidson in an attempt to evade arrest and he was prosecuted for perverting the course of justice.
He also pleaded guilty to being in possession of a screwdriver on the same day.
Donaghue appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, where sentence was deferred for reports to next month.
