THREE men have been arrested this evening following an alleged firearms incident on the A199 east of Wallyford.
Armed police had been called to the road yesterday (Monday), near to the A1 eastbound slip at Dolphinstone, following claims of a gun being fired at about 1.30pm.
It had been alleged that a confrontation involving a number of men in vehicles, who had earlier been on the A1, had taken place.
Locals claimed that two vans had crashed near the local authority recycling centre on the A199 before several men ran off.
Police said earlier today that two vehicles had been recovered before further inquiries led to a search of the Cockburnspath area of the Scottish Borders, almost 30 miles away.
Officers confirmed this evening that three men - aged 30,25 and 17 - have now been arrested.
The A1 slip road at Dolphinstone, which had been closed while police conducted their investigation, was reopened at 3.30pm today.
Inquiries into the alleged incident are ongoing and police say that officers will continue to patrol the area.
Anyone with information, or relevant dash-cam footage, should contact police immediately.
