A COMMEMORATIVE plaque has been unveiled at North Berwick Railway Station in honour of a community stalwart who passed away last year.
A group of 34 friends and family of the late Sheila Sinclair – and members of North Berwick in Bloom, North Berwick Community Council, East Lothian Community Rail Partnership and other local organisations – gathered at the station to witness the plaque being made public. It has been placed on the side of a wooden planter near the platform.
Sheila had been involved with all three of the above-named organisations as a volunteer for many years.
Among those speaking at the ceremony was Ian Watson, on behalf of the community council, of which Sheila was a former chairwoman.
He said: “Chairing NBCC was an important part of the spirit of service and commitment to the community Sheila showed in many ways. We are proud to see that commemorated today.”
Other speakers were Harry Barker, chair of the Community Rail Partnership, and Stan De Prato from North Berwick in Bloom.
Sheila’s sister Norma cut the tape to reveal the plaque. After the ceremony, a lunch was held in the Nether Abbey Hotel.
