A WARNING has been issued for residents to be on their guard against cold callers.

Two reports of potential bogus workmen were passed on to police after people called at doors in the Seggarsdean and Monksmuir areas of Haddington.

During the incidents, which took place on October 22, men attended at various properties offering to carry out roof repairs or tree surgery.

The issue was highlighted in a report to the town’s community council last Tuesday evening.

The report, from Constable Charlie Duncan, said: “Members of the public are reminded that should they experience someone cold-calling at their address in such a fashion not to be pressurised into agreeing immediate work.

“Never pay cash up front or for work that has not been completed and never hand over large sums of money.

“It is also advised never to allow cold-callers access to your property and if in doubt contact the police immediately.”

Anyone who thinks they have been visited by a cold caller should contact Police Scotland on 101.
