A COACH driver who clocked up “thousands upon thousands” of miles in his 30-year career is planning a busman’s holiday in retirement.
Tranent man Alec Napier, who turned 65 on October 28, said he was looking forward to life in the slow lane.
“I’ll be taking it easy and letting someone else do the driving,” said Alec.
“I’ve stayed in lots of nice, and some not-so-nice, hotels in my time. It really was living out of a suitcase. I’ve been all over Europe and Britain, but I’ll be looking to visit somewhere warm now.”
Alec spent the last 21 years of his career with Prentice Coaches in Haddington.
“I worked for Mr Prentice, Don, for nine years and when his son, Ross, took over in 2006 I did another 12 years,” he said.
The retired driver said that he had enjoyed his time on the buses and would miss the customers, especially the pensioners.
“I just recently got my own bus pass, so I’ll be joining them for a busman’s holiday,” he added.
