BUS operator First Glasgow has been summoned to a public inquiry in front of the Traffic Commissioner.

The transport giant would not reveal why it is due to appear at the hearing on Thursday.

But a spokesman for the firm confirmed representatives would appear.

Andrew Jarvis, Managing Director for First Glasgow, said: “I can confirm that First Glasgow have been requested to attend a public inquiry by the office of the Traffic Commissioner starting on Thursday, November 9 and I can also confirm that we will be in attendance.

"We will be in a position to give a further update following the inquiry.”

A public notice names Douglas Harrison, Ronald Williamson, David Alexander, Duncan Cameron, Andrew Jarvis, Gary West and Graeme MacFarlane as directors of the firm.

First Glasgow could face disciplinary action under the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 and The Transport Act.

"Consideration of Transport Managers Repute" is also listed as a reason for the hearing called by Commissioner Joan Aitkin.

First Glasgow has faced repeated criticisms about delays and cancellations to its timetables.

In 2016 a runaway bus on Renfield Street caused alarm and a crash involving a First Bus on the Clyde Expressway earlier this year saw passengers and the driver taken to hospital.
