GLASGOW'S fireworks organisers are calling on revellers not to bring sparklers to the event.

Bosses have said that last year around 20 bags of used sparklers were collected during the clean up of Glasgow Green.

And park users reported finding them stuck in the grass for days afterwards, causing a hazard.

Sparklers can burn at 1200 degrees Fahrenheit which is equivalent to a welder’s torch.

The call comes as the city prepares for its annual display - set to be one of the biggest Glasgow has seen.

It will feature around six tonnes of fireworks on November 5 and feature approximately 12,000 effects in different colours.

It takes a team of five a week to build the display.

Lord Provost of Glasgow Eva Bolander said: “Glasgow’s fireworks display promises to be spectacular.

"It’s also a safe way to enjoy the November 5 celebrations.

"Please come along and witness the fantastic fireworks display we’ve planned.

"I’d also ask everyone attending to look after those they arrive with at Glasgow Green.”

The whole show is managed and fired by a computer firing system.

There are a total of 20 computers controlling and firing the fireworks, all to the music.

Gates for Glasgow’s Fireworks open at 5pm with the display taking place from 7.30pm.

Organisers have urged people attending not to bring their own fireworks, to dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the night, to leave plenty of time to gain access to Glasgow Green and to make sure to follow the safety advice on the big screens.
