A SHOW broadcast entirely in Polish on a Haddington radio station has clinched a national award.

Pol.ON – The Polish Show was named Community Show of the Year at the Community Radio Awards in Sheffield.

The programme, presented by Marzena Farana-Sherlock, is broadcast each Monday, 8-10pm, on Haddington’s East Coast FM.

Mrs Farana-Sherlock, who started the show three-and-a-half years ago, was “speechless” after receiving the award.

She said: “For me, it is a huge privilege to receive the award and I am delighted about it.

“It shows how the work within community is interlinked.

“It would not have happened without my passion for the radio, an idea for the Polish show, without East Coast FM agreeing to host the show and it would not have happened without the involvement of the Polish community.”

The show features a mix of music and interviews and is aimed at the Polish community throughout East Lothian and beyond.

Mrs Farana-Sherlock, who has lived in Haddington for more than three years and been involved in radio for more than a decade, added: “It is a great way of promoting diversity and gives a chance to introduce Polish culture and also a fantastic opportunity for people who might struggle with the language barrier to become aware of what is happening in their local communities.

“They are then aware of things that might affect their daily lives.”

Ian Robertson, founder and station manager, was similarly pleased with the success, which carried on a fine run of form at the annual awards ceremony.

Mr Robertson said: “I keep saying, we do not do it for the awards, they seem to come along.

“Getting the Community Show of the Year award for the second time – we got it 2016 for the School Bell – is great.”
