THE Head Boy and Head Girl at North Berwick High School are looking to work with the wider community during their year at the helm.

Sam Frost and Bonnie Elliott-Johnson were elected as the school's new Head Boy and Head Girl following an extensive selection process.

Their peers voted on who they wanted to take on the roles, before the teaching staff cast their votes.

After that, they were interviewed by a panel including then-interim headteacher Robert Jones, and after all that, the two North Berwick residents were selected for the roles.

Sixteen-year-old Bonnie told the Courier about what they've been doing since.

She said: "We've only really started after the summer holidays.

"We've given assemblies to each of the year groups to introduce ourselves, but that's really been about it so far."

They were on hand to congratulate the winners at last week's school prizegiving.

And Sam is keen to increase their engagement with the wider community.

"That was one of my pledges," said the 17-year-old, who lives on Green Apron Road.

Bonnie, meanwhile, was hoping to improve the Personal and Social Education (PSE) lessons, and see mixed-sex PE lessons return for the S1s.

She said: "Just now the S1s do PE separately and that's something I'd like to change.

"In terms of the PSE lessons, I think it is important that everything kids need to know is covered."

After finishing S6, Bonnie hopes to attend drama school and is studying three Advanced Highers in her final year ā€“ English, Spanish and Geography.

Sam, meanwhile, hopes to study economics at university and is working his way towards that by studying Advanced Higher Physics; Higher Economics, Business and Geography.

Lauren Rodger, the school's headteacher, told the Courier: "Our Head Pupil team went through a rigorous process of selection, performing really well in every element.

"I believe Bonnie, Sam, Alex and Eddie will make a great team and they certainly have the capacity to inspire and motivate pupils across the school.

"Iā€™m already impressed by their commitment and their eagerness to take on duties ā€“ as well as their sense of fun."
