A RACEGOER has filed a claim against Musselburgh Racecourse. . . after she allegedly damaged a nail during Ladies Day.

The course, which is celebrating retaining its 5-star rating again this year, is seeking legal advice after the woman claimed she slipped in the toilets, damaging her nail on the sink.

The incident happened during the sell-out day in June, a highlight in the racecourse’s calendar.

Sarah Montgomery, commercial manager, revealed the claim in a report on operations to date this year.

Her report said: “We are currently in communication with our lawyers around this.”

Ms Montgomery revealed that the course has been awarded a 5-star rating by VisitScotland following an assessment last month.

It means the course has now held the top rating for over 10 years.

The racecourse also became one of the first in the United Kingdom to introduce free mobility scooters for racegoers over the summer, she said.

And the first one was booked and used throughout the day at the Caledonian Cup day on Saturday.

Ms Montgomery told a meeting of Musselburgh Racing Associated Committee, which oversees the management of the course: “We invested in two mobility scooters and that has been well received.

“We are one of the first racecourse in Scotland to have done this, possibly even in the UK which is a positive step.”

East Lothian Councillor Fiona O’Donnell, who chairs the committee, welcomed news of its rating.

She said: “I am delighted the racecourse has achieved its 5 star award. It should be said in a time which has been difficult the staff’s commitment has not faltered at any time.”
