FOUR ‘underground’ homes are set to be built in a courtyard in North Berwick after plans were passed by East Lothian Council.
The proposals, for the development of land adjacent to Fidra House, on Dirleton Avenue, were approved by the council’s planning department.
The four new two-bedroom homes will be “largely invisible” according to a design statement submitted alongside the application by agent Pritchett Planning Consultancy on behalf of Andrew Smith, of Cheylesmore Properties Ltd.
They will sit on currently disused land between Cheylesmore Lodge and Fidra House and each look into an “open soft-landscaped central courtyard sunken into the ground”.
The plans were discussed by North Berwick Community Council (NBCC) earlier this year but the group offered no objection.
