A FORMER employee of Torness Power Station who set up her own business just six months ago is in the running for a national award.
Jan McMullen, from Jan Mac Beauty, is one of nine finalists in the Best Lash Artist category of the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards, which take place on Sunday.
The awards, which are Scotland’s largest and most successful independent hair and beauty awards, attract hundreds of entries from across the country.
Jan, of Dunbar’s Victoria Street, set up Jan Mac Beauty, on High Street, in March and was delighted to be in the running for one of the prizes.
Ahead of the ceremony, which takes place in Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel, the 32-year-old, who worked on the main reception at the power station, said: “It is really quite overwhelming.”
Businesses put themselves forward for the awards before customers vote to send them through to the finals.
