A WOMAN who assaulted two police officers following disturbances at her Dunbar home has been told that if she breaks a court order and goes outside at night to tend to her cat she will be jailed.

Susan Miller punched PC Gregor Mill to the head after officers had been called out to deal with another matter at the property on June 1.

The 44-year-old then assaulted a second officer, PC James Paget, by biting him on the body as she was being taken to a nearby police station seven weeks later on July 21.

Officers had been called out to Miller’s home after she had assaulted a man named Stewart Smith there earlier that evening.

Miller punched Mr Smith to the head whereby he fell to the ground. Miller then continued to strike the man on the head and body as he lay on the ground.

Miller, of Bellevue Cottages, admitted the offences when she appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month and she returned for sentencing last Friday.

Sheriff Alison Stirling handed out a four-month restriction of liberty order to mark the offences and attempt to keep Miller out of trouble over the near future.

She will have to stay at home between the hours of 8pm and 6am until October 15. Following that date, the order will be relaxed and Miller will have to stay at home between those hours on Saturdays and Sundays only until December 16.

Sheriff Stirling said: “I see from the report you have a cat, but if you go outside for the cat you will trigger an alert and you will have breached the order.

“If you breach the order I will grant a warrant for your apprehension and you will spend at least one night in custody.”

Solicitor Mary Moultrie, defending, said Miller’s offending was as a result of combining “alcohol abuse” with Tramadol.
