TWO people have been charged after a break-in at a Co-op in Dunbar.

At 3am this morning (Thursday), police officers from Dunbar responded to an alarm activation at the Co-op supermarket on Countess Crescent.

On arrival a break-in was discovered with the cigarette kiosk, National Lottery terminal and scratch card tower having been targeted.

A police dog handler attended on scene and tracked away from the premises to an area of undergrowth where the stolen property was recovered.

A 22-year-old female and 17-year-old male were subsequently arrested and were later charged and held in police custody pending their appearance at court.

Chief Inspector Steven Duncan, local commander for East Lothian, said: "The response to this incident demonstrates the effectiveness of a number of officers and staff working really well together.

"From the call handlers and controllers in the service centre and area control room to the local officers and supervisors co-ordinating a search; with the assistance of a dog handler from Operational Support Division on the ground; and to those making the arrests and reporting the matter to the court, shows a real team effort to quickly apprehend those responsible and to recover the property that was stolen.”
