A 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital after a crash involving two cars and an HGV on the A1 yesterday evening (Tuesday).

Police said two more people, including a 15-year-old boy, were treated at the scene following the collision.

The A1 was closed for several hours after the accident which involved a BMW 118, a Honda Civic, and the lorry.

One of the vehicles involved struck the central reservation barrier sending debris across the carriageways.

Both cars had to be removed by recovery vehicles.

Police said the 27-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but was not believed to be seriously injured.

The 48-year-old driver of the BMW and his teenage passenger were treated at the scene while the HGV driver was uninjured.

Police said the accident happened a mile and a half south of the Old Craighall junction at around 8.40pm.

The A1 was closed until 11.20pm as officers carried out investigations and the carriageways were cleared of debris.
