AN ARTIST’S work will feature on national television this weekend as part of a programme dedicated to the Lothians and Borders.

BBC One’s Countryfile is stopping off in the county, with Anita Rani cycling along the sands of East Lothian’s coast.

Along the way, she meets Haddington-based artist Pascale Rentsch.

The team behind the programme, which is celebrating its 30th year, got in touch with Pascale, who makes a range of ceramics, at the beginning of last month and just two weeks later were meeting her in Gullane.

She said: “They just phoned me up and said it was Andrew from Countryfile.

“They had an idea of what they wanted to do and had seen my work on my website.

“They wanted to do a piece on me and my work outside.

“It was absolutely fantastic, it was just really good.”

Pascale, who was born in Switzerland before attending Edinburgh’s College of Art, is inspired by nature.

The Countryfile team and Pascale spent the morning in the coastal village before enjoying lunch.

Pascale said: “We had the most beautiful day. There was a blue sky and it was just magical.

“We saw a deer with her young on top of the path. The sun was hitting the buckthorn and they were just nibbling on it.

“It was absolutely magical and we did our bit and then had lunch.”

The crew then returned to Pascale’s studio, on Haddington’s Ivory Court, to the rear of High Street, where they wrapped up their filming.

However, Pascale, who has lived in Haddington for about seven years, nearly missed out on appearing on the show, which is shown on BBC One this Sunday at 6.30pm.

She added: “I had to come back from a drawing workshop in Extremadura [western Spain] and then go back to the workshop.”

Pascale, who has seen her work exhibited throughout the UK, Spain and Netherlands, is now looking forward to seeing the programme.

She said: “I love Countryfile and my boys love it as well.

“It is about nature, being outside, and enjoying it in so many different ways, whether it is farmers, artists or writers – they just cover everything.

“It is lovely for the whole family and I am going to be watching definitely this Sunday.”

This week’s Countryfile also features St Abbs and Edinburgh and takes a look at the companies buying up countryside and then selling it on with planning permission for houses.
