RESIDENTS whose green wheelie bins weren't emptied late last week due to the Beast from the East will receive 'catch-up' collections from tomorrow (Wednesday).

A large number of domestic properties across the county were unable to have their refuse collected last Wednesday through to Friday due to the heavy snowfall.

Now East Lothian Council is taking steps to catch up on those collections - and uplift recycling boxes not emptied during the bad weather too.

Normal collection services for refuse, trade waste, special uplifts, and food and kerbside box recycling resumed on Monday - but additional 'catch-up' collections will also take place.

Homes which were due to have their green wheelie bins emptied last Thursday (March 1) will instead have them collected tomorrow (Wednesday).

While households which missed out on refuse collections last Friday (March 2) will have a collection this Thursday (March 8).

Rural homes in the Gifford, Garvald and Whiteadder areas whose green wheelie bins were not emptied on Wednesday February 28 will have a catch up collection on Friday, March 9.

A council spokesman added: "Homes whose kerbside box recycling collections were missed on Thursday March 1 will have a catch up collection provided on Saturday March 10.

"Homes whose kerbside box recycling collections were missed on Friday March 2 will have a catch up collection provided on Sunday March 11."

Food caddies should be put out on the next normal collection day, with any excess to be disposed of within the green wheelie bin.

Garden waste collections will remain suspended this week.

Community recycling centres are open as normal between 8.30am and 4.15pm.
