LONG-SERVING former councillor Pat O'Donnell has died.

Mr O'Donnell, 71, served as a councillor in East Lothian District Council’s Carberry ward of Musselburgh from 1986 to 1992 and then for Wallyford and Whitecraig in East Lothian Council from 1999 to 2007.

Councillor Andy Forrest, East Lothian Depute Provost, paid tribute to his former colleague.

He said: “I knew Pat for more than 25 years and worked closely with him not just as a fellow councillor but also on a range of initiatives and events in and around Musselburgh.

"He was someone who really cared about other people and was very involved in the local communities in and around Musselburgh.

"For 17 years he served as a councillor in the former Carberry ward and then following local government reorganisation he served as a councillor for Wallyford and Whitecraig.

"He was a well-kent face in Musselburgh, Wallyford and Whitecraig and was a regular visitor and strong supporter of the local galas and will be sorely missed.”
