THE OWNER of an East Lothian restaurant was "delighted" after they were named best restaurant at this year's Scottish Italian Awards.

Osteria, on the town's High Street, was the only county business that claimed a prize at the awards in Glasgow last week.

And owner Angelo Cocchia told the Courier: "We are really delighted to have won.

"We were nominated in two other categories – chef of the year and best wine selection – but did not win.

"We just want to thank all our customers who voted for us, it means a lot to us."

Osteria was the only East Lothian winner on the night, but Dal Patino in Musselburgh was nominated for the best newcomer award which went to La Lanterna, in Glasgow.

Elsewhere, Dino's takeaway in Haddington was up for the best fish and chips and best team awards but missed in both categories, with the former won by Edinburgh-based Giovanni’s and the latter going to Primo Piano, Dumfries.

Both Dino's and Dal Patino were shortlisted in the best pizza category that was won by Pizza Posto, Edinburgh.

And another North Berwick business missed out on the best gelateria category, with Alandas Gelateria beaten by Miele’s, of Inverness.
