The Lord-Lieutenant of East Lothian, Michael Williams, has appointed two new deputies to assist him in his duties.

Pauline Jaffray, from Dunbar and Roddy Urquhart, from Samuelston, have been made Deputy Lord-Lieutenants after dedicating their time to East Lothian.

Mrs Jaffray, from Dunbar, is from a farming background and has been involved with Haddington Farmers' Market since it began in 2000.

She has carried on a family tradition of being involved with Innerwick Flower Show and has been secretary of Dunbar Trades' Association and minute secretary of East Lammermuir Community Council for more than 25 years.

She has been involved in the establishment and organisation of many events in East Lothian and was also a cub leader, a business mentor and a founder member of the successful Dunbar Traditional Music Festival and Dunbar Artists Exhibition.

After a career in advertising, marketing and publicity, she established PJ Design to provide services for small to medium-sized enterprises and in 1989 she established East Lothian Life magazine.

She was awarded a BEM in 2014 for services to her community.

Mrs Jaffray said she was "very honoured" with the appointment.

She said: "When I was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM), I was speechless and this honour is a great honour.

"We have a wonderful county and it is a great honour to work along Lord Lieutenant Michael Williams and the other deputes."

She is joined by Mr Urquhart, from Samuelston, and works as a solicitor at Urquharts Solicitors in Edinburgh.

Mr Urquhart is the President of the Lorettonian Society, and a trustee of the Lamp of Lothian Trust.

He joined his law practice in 1982 when it was known as A&WM Urquhart as the fourth generation of his family to practice law and is a senior partner in the firm.

A former Loretto School pupil, Mr Urquhars joined the Society of Writers to Her Majesty’s Signet and became a Writer to the Signet (WS) and in 1997 he was elected a High Constable of Holyroodhouse.

He is currently an office bearer and Captain of the Guard.

Mr Urquhart said: "I am honoured to have been appointed a Deputy Lord-Lieutenant and look forward to assisting the Lord-Lieutenant with his duties."

The Lord-Lieutenant is Her Majesty the Queen's representative in East Lothian. His deputies are there to step in when he is unavailable.

Mr Williams welcomed his new deputies saying he was delighted to make the appointments.

He said: "Both Pauline and Roddy have been at the heart of East Lothian life for many years and have shown time and again their dedication to this county. I very much look forward to helping them both in the execution of these important duties."

They will join current deputies Jane Stodart, Elizabeth Nicoll, John Kinnaird, James Raitt, and Hilary Cochran as well as Vice Lord-Lieutenant Patrick Gammell
