A POST box has been put in place at Monks’ Muir Park after a lengthy campaign.

Residents repeatedly called for a post box to be erected after becoming increasingly frustrated at having to travel into Haddington to post a letter.

Mike Iverson, of Monks’ Muir Community Association, was delighted to see the new post box unveiled by MP George Kerevan on Saturday.

Mr Iverson said: “For some reason our approaches to the Royal Mail fell on deaf ears. Having spent six years attempting to get the post box, we took the problem to George and he solved it in six weeks.”

The development, for retired and semi-retired people over the age of 50, has more than 100 residents.

Mr Kerevan added: “This is a tribute to the persistence of Mike and the Community Association, and to the tenacity of my constituency staff. I am particularly glad that the post box arrived in time for Christmas, and predict that it will be well used.”
