THE Leuchie team often say that working at Leuchie isn’t just a job, it is a way of life.

I am constantly amazed at the journey we have all been on and by the variety that is now my job. In the last week, for example, I’ve met with a Cabinet Secretary and representatives from Scottish Government, had dinner with guests and a former Scotland rugby international, discussed research and policy at a Carers Summit and even turned down an evening with George Clooney!

I love the variety, the non-routine hours and the fact that no two days are the same. One thing is for sure, there is never a dull moment raising awareness of what we do.

One of my favourite jobs is welcoming our guests. Whether they are returning guests or coming to us for the first time, it’s always a pleasure to see first-hand the effect that a stay at Leuchie has on people. By the end of their break, our guests look relaxed and refreshed, which is great job satisfaction for us all.

We have a few ideas in the pipeline: one is to use the house and grounds at Leuchie as a venue for weddings, private dinners and other events that could lend themselves to the environment. Lots of exciting possibilities!

The highlight this week was to be invited to a dinner at Gullane Primary School cooked and served by the P7 pupils, who had worked with a team from Greywalls Hotel throughout the year. Albert Roux usually attends and always provides the food and drink, and all proceeds from ticket sales go to charity; this year we were lucky enough to be the recipient

The last thing on my list this week was to launch our Christmas Appeal, which also highlights the varied role of Megan, one of our care assistants. Our theme this year is hope, peace, love and joy, something we all need plenty of at any time of year, but perhaps after recent world-shattering events we need even more of it.
