TRANENT-based Radio Saltire has taken the next step towards its goal of becoming Scotland’s number one national community radio station with the award of charitable status.

The station, which has finished fitting out its new studio at Affordable Kitchens & Bathrooms on Loch Road, was awarded charity status from the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) to allow the station to be registered as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).

The station is now planning an open day for sponsors and supporters next Saturday (November 16), 10am-3pm.

Radio Saltire’s Andrew Morris said: “As chairman of the board of trustees, I know I am speaking for everyone connected with the station when I say we are absolutely delighted by this news.

“We feel that our plans are really starting to come together and Radio Saltire is moving forward.

“This has been a fantastic year for us and we are proud that big organisations such as OSCR and the Lottery Commission are supporting our work.

“Our new name, new studios and new address are helping us to galvanise our place in our community.

“Now that we have these solid foundations in place, our work and the work of our volunteers can continue to bring big benefits to both the local area and further afield.”
