ENROLMENT IN NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOLS FOR 2020/2021 Primary

Children who reach the age of 5 on or before 17 August 2020, must normally start school in August 2020. Children who reach the age of 5 after 17 August 2020, but on or before 28 February 2021, may also start school in August 2020, though parents are not obliged to send their child to school until the first entry date after their fifth birthday.

Parents of children in either of these categories are asked to enrol their child at their catchment school before 31st January 2020. Choice of School

Parents have the right to make a placing request for the school they wish their child to attend. This applies whether the child is about to start school or whether he/she is already attending a primary, secondary or additional support needs school. Parents wishing to send their child to a school other than the catchment school should apply to the school of their choice as soon as possible and, in any case, before 15 March 2020. Parents must also enrol their child at their catchment school to ensure a place is available where the placing request is refused. Headteachers will provide information to parents on how to make a placing request for the school of their choice. In the case of children starting school for the first time 'Choosing a School -A Guide for Parents' is available online at

www.gov.scot

. Individual school booklets will be provided by the Headteacher of individual schools and can be accessed online at

www.fife.gov.uk

School catchment areas can be viewed online at

catchmentchecker Parents will be notified on 30 April if their placing request application has been approved. Nursery

From August 2020 all three and four year olds will be eligible for 1,140 hours of Early Learning and Childcare per year, almost double the current provision.

Parents/carers of children who reach the age of 3 on or before 28 February 2021 can apply for a funded place in a Fife Council nursery, or in a private nursery, playgroup or childminder working in partnership with Fife Council. Parents can choose more than one provider to help meet their childcare needs.

Those wishing to make an application to a Fife Council nursery must do so before 31 January 2020. Nursery places are allocated in line with Fife Council's Early Years Admissions Policy. Application forms are available from all Fife Council nursery establishments and at

www.fife.gov.uk/earlyyears

Applications should be made in January 2020 for children due to commence nursery at any point in the following academic session - August

2020, January 2021 or April 2021. Applications

should be submitted to the first choice nursery. Proof of address and a birth certificate or passport must be presented with your application. All places are allocated by a central Admissions Panel and parents/carers will be notified in writing by April 2020. The current models on offer in Fife Council nurseries are changing from August 2020. Detailed information on the new models is available from all Fife Council nurseries and at

www.fife.gov.uk/earlyyears

. Families with children who currently attend ELC and will return for their pre-school year in August 2020 will therefore also be required to make a new application for an ELC place in January 2020. General information about schools and ELC in the Fife area can be found on our website
