BOXER Nathan Shaw kept up his 100 per cent title-winning record as he claimed victory in the GB Schoolboy Championships in Wales at the weekend.

Shaw - who trains at Tranent's Bronx Boxing Gym - beat a Welsh competitor at Pontypridd last Friday in the semi-finals of the 44kg category by 16 points to five, and went on to beat Englishman Patrick Birkenhead 13-7 in the final to land Scotland's first title at the championships, after the first five Scottish entrants had lost.

A proud Alex Brown, owner of Bronx Boxing Gym, said: "It is a great achievement for Nathan, who is a special talent and has won every title he has boxed for to date.

"The gym is now doing everything I predicted and more. I said we would have a Scottish champion in our first full year and we had three, and I predicted a British champion in five years but it has taken only two and a half years.

"With us having 19 young boxers entering the Scottish Novice Championships on October 20 and 21, I feel the gym's success speaks for its self.

"We have many young lads that will emulate what Nathan has done and I expect many champions in the season to come. The great thing is lads like Nathan now set the trend and inspire the other young lads to follow in his footsteps - and please believe me, there are so many there that will."

Shaw was only one of four champions for Scotland from 16 entries at the event.

Brown added: "Winning a British championship is no easy task but I am very proud of the young lad, as I am of all my boxers.

"Being there and seeing Nathan win assures me that the gym is going to help and change the futures of many young people and for that I am very happy."
