Dunbar RFC minis held their annual tournament at the weekend, with hundreds of youngsters taking part.

And there was delight for the home club, with their primary six side taking the title in their category, while Portobello claimed success in the primary five and primary seven age-groups.

Currie RFC were the primary three winners, while Berwick claimed the primary four crown, as 600 youngsters took part in the competition at Hallhill on Sunday.

Dunbar, North Berwick, Haddington and Preston Lodge made up the county contingent taking part, while sponsors Taylor Wimpey East Scotland were delighted to be backing the tournament.

Karen Armstrong, sales and marketing director for the company, said: “We’re delighted to have supported such a popular local event for the fifth year in a row, and it was clear from the buzz at the end of the matches that it was a great day out for everyone involved. The matches were clearly hard-fought, but everyone seems to have had a great time, despite the weather during the medal ceremony.

“Our new phase of new homes has recently opened at Gospatrick Grange in Dunbar to allow us to continue to deliver a great choice of family homes. We are undoubtedly attracting new families to the area, so this sponsorship allows us to extend our support and commitment in the local community of Dunbar.” Meanwhile, Finlay Graham, Dunbar RFC mini co-ordinator said: “This year’s event was a great success, with an excellent turnout of support for the children involved in the matches. We’re thrilled to have Taylor Wimpey East Scotland as our main sponsor for this event, and it was particularly satisfying to see every child who had taken part receive a medal – they all looked extremely proud of their achievements whether they won or lost.
