MORE than 250 boys and girls and their families and friends gathered at the Pennypit stadium , Prestonpans, on Sunday for a morning of mini-rugby.

Teams from Preston Lodge, Haddington, Musselburgh, North Berwick, Portobello and Watsonians rugby clubs competed in year groups from P3 to P7. Supporters enjoyed excellent, closely-contested games played in welcome sunshine.

The P3 touch rugby was fast and furious and every player was awarded a medal for participation.

The older age groups demonstrated their mastery of tackling skills and their appreciation of positioning and set pieces. The enthusiasm and determination of the players bodes well for the future of rugby in the region.

The winners in each year group were: P4 - Watsonians; P5 - North Berwick; P6 - Portobello; P7-Portobello.

The runners up were: P4 - North Berwick; P5 - Watsonians; P6 - Watsonians; P7- North Berwick.

Medals and trophies were presented to the players by PLRFC 1st XV captain, Euan Thayne.

Players and would-be players will be able to develop their skills at PL"s rugby development summer camp in July, led by the club"s development officer, Dougie Thomson.
