Hawick Linden 12
Ross High 50
AN EIGHT-TRY rout of Hawick Linden secured promotion back to East League Division 1 for Ross High on Saturday.
Connor Ramsay, Rob Peden and Adam Welsh all crossed twice as they ran out big winners over Linden at Volunteer Park.
Ryan Hook ended with a 15-point haul thanks to five conversions and a try of his own, while Lucas Reid scored the other try for the Tranent side.
The visitors were dominant early on and Ramsay crossed to open the scoring, with Hook converting for 0-7.
The lead grew when prolific back-row Peden went over, but no conversion meant Ross’ lead was only 12 points.
A converted try for the hosts brought them back into the match momentarily, but the visitors’ healthy advantage was restored thanks to Hook’s individual seven-pointer.
Ross High led 7-19 at the break and secured a try bonus point when Welsh went over for his first try, which Hook again converted for 7-26.
Linden hit back with their second try but Ross cut loose in the final stages, with Welsh, Ramsay and Reid helping themselves to tries as the visitors hit the half-century mark.
And there was delight for the travelling support at full-time as the win confirmed Ross High’s promotion at the first time of asking, and with two games to spare.
Ross High are currently top of the table, but Barnton are close behind and have two games in hand as they hunt the title.
Trinity Accies visit Tranent for Ross High’s final home league game of the season on Saturday.
