Kirkcaldy 27-0 Preston Lodge

A POOR run of away results in National 2 continued for Preston Lodge as they were comfortably beaten in Fife on Saturday.

Andrew Clark’s side travelled looking to inflict a first loss of the season on table-topping hosts Kirkcaldy but were second best throughout.

The Blues scored four tries to seal maximum points, scores coming from Connor Wood, Sean McKervail, Dayle Turner and Scott Anderson. The rest of Kirkcaldy’s points were kicked by Finlay Smith – a penalty and two conversions.

Smith opened the scoring on 17 minutes as he kicked a penalty.

PL then lost hooker Kyle Scott to injury shortly before the half-time break, and they were hit with a second blow when Wood powered over from a five metre scrum. Smith converted and Kirkclady led 10-0 at the break.

The game resumed uneventfully with mistakes galore and Clark’s side pressing to get back into the match. Ten minutes on, things got worse for PL as home winger Sean McKervaill dotted down following a well-rehearsed move.

A third try for the Blues followed when Turner powered over following another five-metre scrum and Smith’s extras took the game away from PL at 22-0.

Three minutes from time, replacement Anderson nipped over for the hosts’ bonus point score.

Preston Lodge are now in 10th in National 2 but will hope to bounce back against Biggar, currently fourth, at the Pennypit on Saturday.
