NORTH Berwick rugby star Harvey Elms has reflected on a “fantastic” time at the Hong Kong 10s last month.

Elms, who played for the Recreation Park club as a youngster, represented the Projecx Waterboys – a side comprising some of the best players in the Scottish club game.

The former Scotland U20 cap told Courier Sport: “It was up there as one of the most spectacular places I’ve been.

“The highlights would be coming up against teams from all over the world.

“It was pretty surreal looking up at your opposite man and it being a New Zealand 7s player that you have watched on TV.”

The 21-year-old, who plays his club rugby for Currie in the top flight, added: “It was great to come together as a Scotland select and play with boys I usually play against week in week out.

“The group got on so well as soon as we gathered at the airport so it was great to spend an experience like that with them.”

The invitational side made it to the Plate semi-final stage, before they were beaten 12-5 by French outfit Kir Club Pyrenees.

And while disappointed not to have won silverware, Elms was delighted to share the experience with two of his Currie colleagues – Ben Robbins and Robbie Nelson.

The back-three player, who has turned out for theScotland Club Internationalist, added: “It was nice having Robbie and Ben alongside me on the trip, and on the field.

“Being in such a different environment, it was good to have boys I’ve spent so much time with back home do it with me.”
