THE SON of former Scotland rugby ace Roy Laidlaw is Dunbar RFC's new part-time development officer.

Chris Laidlaw, a former Jed-Forest stand-off now captain at BT Premiership outfit Boroughmuir, was confirmed in the role by the Hallhill club this week.

Laidlaw, whose cousin is Scotland captain Greig, is looking forward to his new role.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone involved with Dunbar RFC and working alongside all players, coaches and volunteers in helping to drive the club forward.

"Rugby has always been such a big part of my life for as long as I can remember really and I am the youngest brother of three.

"Coming from such a rugby orientated family I was never pushed towards playing the sport but merely encouraged to try it out and am so grateful to be able to play and coach (in my opinion) the best team sport in the world."

David Wilson, Dunbar RFC president, was delighted to have Laidlaw on board.

He said: "The club went through a rigorous selection process after 15 candidates applied for the role.

"After a series of interviews, presentations and coaching demonstrations, Chris Laidlaw was selected and accepted the role.

"He will work to develop players and coaches at the Dunbar Mini section and the School of Rugby at the Grammar School.

"Dunbar RFC look forward to working with Chris to take rugby in Dunbar to the next level."
