North Berwick 36 Dunbar 10

NORTH Berwick made it three wins in a row with a derby victory over Dunbar at Recreation Park on Saturday.

A hat-trick from wing Murray West plus tries from his brother, Liam, Matt Sanderson and a first in more than five years for prop Alan Gallacher secured victory.

Liam West kicked three conversions to end with an 11-point haul as North Berwick secured a bonus point win.

The hosts dominated early on, but were unable to break down the Dunbar defence in the opening quarter.

They were forced to wait until the 21st minute for their first try, as Liam West dived over out wide.

Just two minutes later, their lead was extended as Murray West cut a superb line to beat the Dunbar defence and dive over. His brother converted to make it 12-0.

Dunbar enjoyed a spell of possession on the half hour, and looked to have scored as Ewan Patrizio looked to have grounded the ball first after a race to the line.

The referee, however, favoured the home side, and awarded a five metre scrum.

The Dunbar back-row did not have to wait long for his try, as he powered over from close range following a powerful scrum.

Visiting stand-off Ross Charlton converted to reduce the arrears to 12-7 at the break.

Murray West scored his second try shortly after the restart, but with the conversion missed and Charlton landing a penalty soon after, the gap was down to seven points (17-10).

Prop Gallagher then got on the end of a sweeping move for a rare try to give North Berwick a cushion once more, as he ran in from the 22m line to touch down at the posts.

Liam West's conversion grew the lead to 24-10, before the North Berwick prop and Dunbar's Chris Bryce were both sent to the sin bin.

The home side took advantage when second row Sanderson crashed over, before Jamie Peters, the veteran Dunbar centre, also saw yellow for a high tackle.

Murray West completed his hat-trick late on to complete a comfortable win for Jason White's side.

North Berwick are at home again this weekend, with Penicuik the visitors, while Dunbar face a trip to West Lothian, as they face Linlithgow.
