Haddington 39 Perthshire 19

A HAT-TRICK from winger Kyle Adams helped Haddington to a bonus point win over Perthshire on Saturday.

His treble came as part of a second consecutive seven-try win, with full-back James Ferguson, stand-off Gareth Pritchard, scrum-half Jack Hamilton and makeshift back-row Garry Cockburn all going over.

The visitors travelled to Neilson Park looking for their first win of the season, and produced a spirited first half display.

The crossed for the game's opening try, and added a pair of penalties to lead 11-8 at the break, Adams' first try added to by a Pritchard penalty for the hosts.

Rhodri Thomas' side were much improved in the second half, and kept the ball for long periods as the visitors began to tire.

Man of the match Jonny Riddell was again at the heart of their defensive effort, while captain Colin Stuart put in a number of big carries.

Adams was the main beneficiary, as he crossed twice more after the break to complete his hat-trick, while a try from stand-off Pritchard secured the bonus point.

James Ferguson rounded off a superb team move for the fifth try, before Cockburn snuck over from close range for the Reds' sixth of the day.

Pritchard endured a difficult day with the boot, landing just two conversions, but the Reds were comfortable winners in front of their home support for the second week running.

They are unbeaten in three matches, but face a tough test on Saturday as they make the short journey to face league leaders Lasswade.

Meanwhile, the club's 2nd XV picked up their first win of the season against Edinburgh Accies 3rd XV at Raeburn Place.

They face Watsonians 3rds at Neilson Park this weekend.
