Ross High 25 Hawick Harlequins 46

PROMOTED Ross High suffered a big defeat in their East League Division 1 opener in Tranent on Saturday.

The club got off to a flying start against Hawick Harlequins, as Matthew Martin's try gave them the lead as early as the third minute.

The Hawick outfit soon took control of the match, and crossed for four first half tries to wrap up a bonus point.

A penalty from the home side reduced the gap to 16 points at the break, but that margin was soon widened once more as Hawick Quins scored two quick tries after the restart.

Trailing 36-15, Bob Baillie's men scored twice in quick succession through Nick Tinlin and Ryan Strachan to cut the gap to 36-20.

They were unable to score a fourth, which would have earned them a bonus point of their own, and two more tries put the Borders side out of sight.

Ross High are on the road on Saturday, making the short trip to Forrester.
