Musselburgh 25 Preston Lodge 15

MUSSELBURGH lifted the Jardine Cup with victory over Preston Lodge at Stoneyhill.

Both sides fielded familiar faces, with the exception of new Burgh stand-off Iain Martin, signed from Boroughmuir.

A combative opening 10 minutes saw both sides create chances, but the visitors were the first to go over, with McColl powering over after a period of pressure close to the Burgh line.

The try was unconverted, but PL led 0-5.

The match, played over periods of 20 minutes, reached its first break with the Panners in front.

Musselburgh got on the board when former Scotland 7s cap Michael Maltman drove over, but the try went unconverted so the scores were level (5-5).

The hosts took the lead for the first time when Michael Roy capitalised on a superb run from Andrew Cook to dive over, with Danny Owenson converting for 12-5.

Willie Fleming's try, after excellent work from Craig Veitch, put daylight between the two sides at 17-5.

A superb individual try from Dale Gordon reduced the arrears to 17-10, but Burgh sealed victory thanks to a try by Stuart Kirby to make it 22-10.

Finlay Hughes grabbed a consolation for Andrew Clark's side but a penalty from Owenson rounded off the scoring, with Musselburgh the winners.

Victorious head coach, Grant Talac told Courier Sport: "It was a great game and allowed us to give a run out to 37 players, with guys like Craig Veitch who has been out for a year really playing well."
