Dunbar recorded a much-needed bonus point victory over Hawick Harlequins on Saturday.

The county club went into the match in need of a win to put distance between themselves and fellow strugglers in East Division 1.

Mark Coull, head coach, recalled a host of first-team regulars to the side, meaning there was a different look to the side that took the field the previous week.=

The home side made the better start and got the game's first try after just six minutes, when John Peebles powered over.

Ross Charlton added the extras to make it a perfect start for Dunbar, who led 7-0.

The Borders side then had a man sent to the sin-bin as Dunbar dominated, but were unable to add to their tally, despite their best efforts.

Young centres Andy Taylor and Gary Peebles both went close, but there was a second try in the first half, with Ewan Patrizio going over.

Charlton's extras meant Dunbar led 14-0 at the interval, and they extended their advantage shortly after the resumption.

Coull's men battered the Quins line, before the ball was popped to Stuart Crichton and the big lock dived over.

Charlton's conversion was wide this time but Dunbar held a good advantage.

They were denied two further tries, and had Chris Baikie sent to the sin-bin as the Borders side got back into the game.

Quins grabbed their first try of the game when their prop took advantage of some poor Dunbar defending to score.

There were Dunbar celebrations, though, when Ewan Patrizio dived over for his second of the afternoon to secure the vital bonus point.

The number eight showed his power as he crashed over from the base of a dominant scrum by the hosts.

Charlton missed the conversion, but it did not matter as Dunbar claimed a much-needed five point win.

They will now enjoy a two-week break before returning to action at home to the other Hawick club, Linden, on February 20.
