Members of East Lothian Swim Team were at the inaugural Scottish Summer Meet at the Royal Commonwealth Pool last weekend.

The 11-strong East Lothian contingent, some of whom had flown back early from a French swimming event for the competition, reached 30 finals and earned five medals between them.

Finlay Hart showed impressive form, making the finals of each of his five events and achieving personal best times in every race. Most notably, he took five seconds off his entry time in the 200m butterfly, giving him an emphatic win, as he won by seven seconds. The Tranent teenager travelled to Sheffield earlier this week to compete in his favoured 50m and 100m butterfly events at the British Summer Meet. With a current British ranking of 12th and 14th respectively for the 100m and 50m butterfly, he was precluded from swimming the events in the Scottish Summer Meet but instead will test his skills and strength amongst the top 20 swimmers in his age group from across the UK.

Bruce Halloran, East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) head coach, noted the toughness shown by Catrina McManus, 14, as she improved all her entry times, making three out of four finals and picking up a silver medal in the 200m backstroke, while, in the same age group, Anna Balfour reached finals in four out of her five events, and collected a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke.

In the 13-and-under age group, Christen Russell reached the finals in two of her five events, taking silver in the 200m breaststroke, and Sean Craigmile made the finals in all six of his events, claiming bronze in the 1,500m freestyle.

The remainder of the ELST team was: Andrew McKnight, Fraser Samuel, Charlie Smith, Sarah Anderson, Rosie Berwick and Fiona Dickson.
