Festive celebrations will continue at Musselburgh Racecourse, with their eagerly-anticipated meeting on New Year’s Day, following on from the 146th running of the New Year’s Sprint.

The sprint, the highlight of two days of foot races at the track, comes to its conclusion on New Year’s Day, following the heats on Hogmanay, with runners coming from far and wide to attend, including the usual strong contingent from the Borders.

The draw for the sprint heats was made at the racecourse on Monday, with defending champion Dylan Ali of Hawick drawn in heat 9.

Meanwhile, on the horse racing side, the racecourse will host a number of action-packed races, including the Totepool Hogmaneigh Hurdle and Totepool Scottish Premier Chase.

Bill Farnsworth, Musselburgh Racecourse general manager, said: “The Totepool New Year’s Day Race Meeting promises a fun days racing for all the family and an atmosphere that is second to none.

“Alongside an exciting race programme, this day is known for its fantastic family friendly atmosphere – a perfect day to bring the whole family along, especially as kids gain free entry to all race meetings at Musselburgh.

“Racegoers can keep cosy in our heated marquees, with plenty of festive food and refreshments to keep appetites sated and thirsts quenched!

“What’s more, we’ve arranged a special ‘first foot’ double decker bus from the city centre so race goers can toast the New Year and try their luck in 2015.” Tickets for the meeting are now available, priced £20, while a shuttle bus is available from Waterloo Place in the Capital for £5 return.

Gates open at 10.30am, with the first race at 12.25pm, and the last race getting under way at 3.20pm.
